(1) Chelation Therapy

Chelation detox (pronounced KEY-LAY-SHUN) is the process by which a metal or mineral (such as calcium, lead, cadmium, iron, arsenic, aluminum, etc.) is bonded to another substance, in this case EDTA, an amino acid. It is a natural process, basic to life itself.

Chelation is one mechanism by which such common substances as aspirin, antibiotics, vitamins, minerals and trace elements work in the body.
Hemoglobin, the red pigment in blood which carries oxygen, is a chelate of iron.

What is EDTA?

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, widely abbreviated as EDTA, is an amino poly carboxylic acid and a colorless, water-soluble solid.
EDTA is used to bind metal ions in the practice of chelation therapy, e.g. for treating mercury and lead poisoning. It is used in a similar manner to remove excess iron from the body.
This therapy is used to treat the complication of repeated blood transfusions, as would be applied to treat thalassaemia. The U.S. FDA approved the use of EDTA for lead poisoning on July 16, 1953, under the brand name of Versenate.

How it works?

Chelation is a treatment by which a small amino acid called ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (commonly abbreviated EDTA) is slowly administered to a patient intravenously over several hours, prescribed by and under the supervision of, a licensed health care practitioner.
The IV fluid containing EDTA is infused through a small needle placed in the vein of a patient’s arm. The EDTA infusion bonds with unbalanced metals in the body and quickly redistributes them in a healthy way or carries them away in the urine.
Abnormally situated nutritional metals, such as iron, along with toxic elements such as lead, mercury and aluminum, are easily removed by EDTA chelation therapy. Normally present minerals and trace elements which are essential for health are more tightly bound within the body and can be maintained with a properly balanced nutritional supplement.

Chelation Therapy- Treatment of Cancer:

A recently published article from the University Of Zurich in Switzerland reported an 18-year follow-up of a group of 56 chelation therapy patients. When comparing the death rate from cancer with that of a control group of patients who did not receive chelation therapy, the authors found that patients who received EDTA chelation therapy had a 90% reduction of cancer deaths.

Chelation therapy is non-invasive therapy is very much safer and far less expensive than surgery or angioplasty. It is a safe and effective alternative to
• Bypass surgery
• Angioplasty
• Stents.

Hardening of the arteries

Need not lead to coronary bypass surgery, heart attack, amputation, stroke, or senility. There is new hope for victims of these and other related diseases.
Despite what you may have heard from other sources, EDTA chelation therapy, administered by a properly trained practitioner, in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle, prudent diet, and nutritional supplements, is an option to be seriously considered by persons suffering from coronary artery disease, cerebral vascular disease, brain disorders resulting from circulatory disturbances, generalized hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis, also called arteriosclerosis) and related ailments which can lead to stroke, heart attack, senility, gangrene, and accelerated physical decline.

Doctor’s Advice & Paul Rana’s Review

When we discussed Chelation Therapy with Dr. Paul, who has 15 years of experience with Alternating Cancer Therapies, he explained its crucial role in cancer treatment. He said it works synergistically with other Alternative Cancer Therapies and helps give the best results. The better circulation, the improved oxygen uptake, in fact it is a great preventative and a must do annually for those over 50 years old in my opinion.

Having an immune system running on all cylinders makes sense, looking at cancer like a race; you want everything to operating at an optimum level. Even the best new car will not run without a $2.50 spark plug. Although this service needs to be done 3 times a week for several weeks, the amount used is tiny and just as important to the body as a little spark plug is to a car.

Combining therapies is our point of difference, and when we have the trial of 100 people, you will see also what we believe; our point of difference is outstanding results.

(2) Vitamin C

In all the alternative cancer therapies, Intravenous Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Therapy has its own importance. With all the other therapies it acts synergistically and gives the best results. Timing is important, over the years we have discovered the times to give and the times not to give. This timing does effect outcomes we believe.

Also, the amounts given are important. We give up to 120grams or a gram per KG of body weight. Half in the first hour and the balance over 3 hours. The client is then given Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, this has a profound influence on the penetration and recovery of the client, whatever health challenge they are facing.

(3) Alpha Lipoic Acid - the Universal Antioxidant

Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a virtually unknown nutrient.

It is a naturally occurring thiol antioxidant, or simply stated, a sulfur containing chemical produced in plants and animals.1,2 It has been shown to have a remarkable ability to regenerate other major antioxidants and protect the body from oxidative stress. Research has also shown that it has the potential to outperform chemotherapy in its ability to reduce cancer cell formation; with little to no side-effects or collateral damage.

Alpha lipoic acid is found in food and many alternative health doctors use higher dose supplemental form to help those with diabetes, neurodegenerative conditions, auto-immune diseases, cancer, and heart disease. Alpha lipoic acid in supplemental form is also used to improve human performance in otherwise healthy individuals.

Where Do We Find Alpha Lipoic Acid?

Alpha lipoic acid is available from the following dietary sources:2, 3, 4

Fruits & Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables including spinach and broccoli are some of the highest sources of ALA. Other sources are tomatoes and potatoes.

Organ Meat: Kidney, heart, and liver (from grass-fed animals is recommended).

Supplement: Supplement dosage size can range from 50-600mg/day depending on the desired therapeutic effect you wish to achieve. As with any dietary supplement, you should speak with your health care provider to learn if ALA dietary supplementation is right for you.

Foods with high concentrations of this can also be incorporated into the diet to promote the body’s natural ability to produce ALA.

Examples of foods high in cancer fighting tare:

Asparagus | Bok choy | Cabbage | Cauliflower | Chives | Leeks | Peas | Onions | Sauerkraut | Eggs | Garlic |Shallots

Alpha Lipoic Acid Increases Oxygen Production Within Cancer Cells

A 2005 study showed that ALA increased the mitochondrial respiration within colon cancer cells.8 This is significant because cancer cells are known to have mitochondrial dysfunction and an inability to produce oxygen through aerobic respiration.

Oxygen is the nemesis of cancer cells which are characterized as anaerobic or living without oxygen. ALA was shown to increase oxygen production within the cancer cell. The increased oxygen induced the apoptosis genetic mechanism and killed the mutated cells. Alpha Lipoic Acid Versus Chemotherapy

Conventional cancer therapy treatment today involves processes that further increase DNA damage and create free radicals. Mitomycin C is a chemotherapy drug and antibiotic that is very efficient at causing cellular damage and depleting available antioxidant sources. Radiation treatment damages cells and is also responsible for initiating the growth of secondary tumors.4, 9

Alpha lipoic acid works against cancer by improving mitochondrial respiration and protects against DNA damage that causes cancer cell production.10 It prevents against metastatic cancer spread by reducing the activity of key enzymes that are used by tumors to invade tissues. It also reduces angiogenesis or the growth of new blood supply for cancer cells.11

If you happen to be taking chemotherapy, lipoic acid protects against many of the side effects by protecting normal cells from the free radical stress and inflammation caused by the chemotherapy. In particular, ALA protects against chemo-induced neuropathy and intestinal damage and diarrhea.12

ALA increases the availability of antioxidants to cells, reduces cellular damage, promotes health, and targets cancer cells and cancer promoting factors for destruction. Which form of treatment seems the best therapy to save lives? How to Choose Alpha Lipoic Acid Supplements

Look for a high-quality lipoic acid from a company that is known for research and quality. The most bioactive form is R-lipoic acid. You want to take this supplement with food, and in particular fat, in order to maximize absorption.

Most functional nutritionists will start their clients with dosages ranging from 100mg to 600mg daily. Some individuals have SUOX and CBS gene mutations that are actively expressed and limit their ability to tolerate sulfur compounds. These individuals may struggle with ALA supplementation. This is not a common issue and research has shown that most individuals do very well with ALA supplementation.

If you have trouble with detoxification than it is best to start with lower dosages (50-100 mg) and see how you tolerate it and then gradually work your dosage up by increasing 50mg per week until you get to the desired level that you and your health coach have agreed upon.

(4) DMSO Use in the fight against cancer

Alpha lipoic acid is available from the following dietary sources: 2, 3, 4 Fruits & Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables including spinach and broccoli are some of the highest sources of ALA.

Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is a commonly available product with a wide variety of non-medical uses. In industry, it has been used as a chemical solvent. In laboratory research, it is often used as a cryopreservative for cultured cells. One of the properties of DMSO is that it is absorbed very rapidly through the skin and cell membranes, carrying along almost anything else (particularly, low molecular weight molecules) dissolved in it that would not otherwise be able to cross those barriers.

Intravenous and oral administration of DMSO allows it to penetrate rapidly into vascular and non-vascular tissues in the body (854). Its popular use among athletes, people with arthritis and others have stemmed from claims that topical DMSO reduces pain, decreases swelling, and promotes healing of injured tissue.

DMSO, available in health food stores or by mail order, register on the left to see our full website including our shopping cart.

DMSO is commonly used in unconventional cancer treatments, particularly in “metabolic” treatments, such as those offered at several clinics in Tijuana, and in the United States (e.g., at a hospital in Zion, Illinois and at clinics in Nevada, Pennsylvania, and California (289). DMSO is often combined with laetrile and vitamin C, among other substances, and administered to patients intravenously. For example, the “Manner Cocktail,” consisting of 10cc of DMSO, 25 grams of vitamin C, and 9 grams of laetrile dissolved in a 250cc bag of a 5% dextrose solution (574), is used to treat cancer patients at the Manner Clinic in Tijuana.

One of the most widely available sources of information about the use of DMSO in unconventional cancer treatments is the booklet commonly available in health food stores: Dr. Donsbach Tells You What You Always Wanted to Know about DMSO (263). In this booklet, it is claimed that “while DMSO has not brought ˜cure’ for health problems, it has been and is now the source of comfort for millions of medical consumers.” Dr. Donsbach states that DMSO acts by making cancer cells “behave more normally by bringing about a mitotic turnabout.” He proposes its use as a treatment to relieve pain, to slow the growth of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, to control inflammation and swelling, to relieve burns and sprains, and to relieve the symptoms of arthritis, herpes, tuberculosis, sinusitis, and cancer.

Mildred Miller, an advocate of DMSO use in cancer treatment (616), claims that intravenous DMSO “dissolves the protein shell surrounding the cancer cells and begins to restore the abnormal cell to normalcy” (615) and that it “stimulate[s] the body’s own immune system, as well as altering the cancer cell, causing it to become mature or burn out” (617). Miller is associated with a clinic in Las Vegas that uses DMSO as one of its main components of cancer treatment. Topical application of DMSO has been associated with redness, itching, inflammation of the skin and garlic-like taste and odor on the breath.

Dr. Pablo said:

At Atlantis Salud Spa, we never combine Vitamin C with Laetrile, because an observation I done of 2 clinics in Australia over 3 years, they never had a cancer cured when they combined Vitamin C and laetrile. As a result, Paul Rana came to the conclusion that the Vitamin C being an acid pH may burn the herb Laetrile or Vitamin B17. So, we always keep them apart. We prefer to wake the client, with a glass of fresh water and a squeeze of lemon. Then we give the Vitamin B17 Injection with hydration if needed or a simple three-minute direct push into the port, this may be mixed with saline and DMSO depending on the stage of the cancer treatment and the therapies they are doing. We know from experience this gives the best results. Then any other IV products can be given over the day.

(5) IV Acute Asthma

Asthma is a very common disease, in acute asthma, patients will exhibit increasing shortness of breath, chest tightness, coughing, and/or wheezing.
To prevent severe exacerbations of asthma, the goals for the physician managing patients with asthma are:
1. Recognition of patients who are at a greater risk for near-fatal or fatal asthma.
2. Education of the patient to recognize a deterioration in their disease.
3. Provision of an individual action plan for the patient to manage the exacerbation and to know when to seek professional help.
Finally, this iv will help you to control those cases where the ordinary treatment doesn't work.

(6) IV Acute Viral Illness

An acute viral infection is characterized by rapid onset of disease, a relatively brief period of symptoms, and resolution within days. It is usually accompanied by early production of infectious virions and elimination of infection by the host immune system. Acute viral infections are typically observed with pathogens such as influenza virus and rhinovirus.

Often an acute infection may cause little or no clinical symptoms – the so-called inapparent infection. A well-known example is poliovirus infection: over 90% are without symptoms. During an inapparent infection, sufficient virus replication occurs in the host to induce antiviral antibodies, but not enough to cause disease. THIS IV WILL IMPRUVE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM.

(7) IV Chelation Protocol

Chelation is an important process of eliminating toxic metals from the body. Chelation is a well understood principle for any chemist, who knows that mercury is particularly attracted to thiols or sulfur found in every cell in the body.

A true chelator for mercury has two thiol groups per molecule, which are spaced the appropriate distance to fit around the mercury ion. When one of these chelator molecules comes along, it attaches to the mercury ion, forming a bond that is strong enough to rip the mercury away from wherever it is lodged.

(8) Myers’ Cocktail

Named after the father of IV nutrition John Myers MD. Dr. Myers created an IV vitamin infusion of magnesium, calcium, vitamin C, and B vitamins that he found to be helpful in treating: asthma, migraines, fatigue, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergies, cardiovascular disease and other disorders.

Our Myers Cocktail is the perfect IV drip to alleviate chronic symptoms like inflammation, muscle pain, fatigue and stress. With the perfect blend of multivitamins and hydration this infusion also helps increase immune support, alleviate anxiety, migraines and muscle cramps. Relax with this restorative drip that can help restore balance to your mind, body and even soul.

(9) IV push Gaby Formula

IV push protocol developed by Jonathan Wright, MD, and Alan Gaby, MD, that infuses high concentrations of nutrients to quickly boost energy and alkalinize the body. It is similar to the longer Myers' Cocktail and was distilled down to around 25 cc’s that can be pushed quickly for a "pick-me-up", to ward off an infection, a general health and immune booster or alleviation of the problems noted below.

Some patients opt to do a series of 4-8 of these “Gaby’s”, as we call them for short, at 1-2 per week to get their health improving quickly. This can also be done with the longer, more powerful “Myers' Cocktail”, if the patient needs a stronger version of this I.V. nutrition.

(10) IV Macular Degeneration

AMD is a common eye condition and a leading cause of vision loss among people age 50 and older. It causes damage to the macula, a small spot near the center of the retina and the part of the eye needed for sharp, central vision, which lets us see objects that are straight ahead.

In some people, AMD advances so slowly that vision loss does not occur for a long time. In others, the disease progresses faster and may lead to a loss of vision in one or both eyes. As AMD progresses, a blurred area near the center of vision is a common symptom. Over time, the blurred area may grow larger or you may develop blank spots in your central vision. Objects also may not appear to be as bright as they used to be.

(11) IV Super-Immuno

Give your body the fuel it needs to stay healthy and on the go. The Immunity Drip is a cold and flu booster and improves both immune health and mental clarity. It includes a high dosage of Vitamin C, B vitamins, and Zinc combined with nutrients that help keep common illnesses at bay.

-Increase immune function
-Cell healing and repair
-Fast illness recovery

(12) Special IV Targeting IV Treatments

Anabolizing with glutamineL-glutamine is a component of the structural units of DNA and RNA. it plays a key role in protein synthesis and regulates the ammonia levels in your body. This compound comprises approximately 50 to 60 percent of the free amino acids in muscles. it can also be found in your brain, lungs, liver, blood, and tissues.

Glutamine has several major roles in the human body:
-It protects your immune system
-It contributes to protein synthesis
-It stimulates glycogen formation
-It spares myosin heavy chain proteins
-It raises growth hormone levels
-It boasts strong anti-catabolic effects
-It aids in digestion
-It enhances physical performance
-It speeds up muscle recovery
-It helps build lean muscle

Is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage"; however, due to it being a complex, subjective phenomenon, defining pain has been a challenge. In medical diagnosis, pain is regarded as a symptom of an underlying condition.

Pain is the most common reason for physician consultation in most developed countries. It is a major symptom in many medical conditions and can interfere with a person's quality of life and general functioning. Simple pain medications are useful in 20% to 70% of cases. Psychological factors such as social support, hypnotic suggestion, excitement, or distraction can significantly affect pain's intensity or unpleasantness. In some debates regarding physician-assisted suicide or euthanasia, pain has been used as an argument to allow people who are terminally ill to end their lives.

Collagen formula

Is the main structural protein in the extracellular space in the various connective tissues in the body. As the main component of connective tissue, it is the most abundant protein in mammals, making 25% to 35% of the whole-body protein content. Collagen consists of amino acids wound together to form triple-helices of elongated fibrils. It is mostly found in fibrous tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and skin.

Depending upon the degree of mineralization, collagen tissues may be rigid (bone), compliant (tendon), or have a gradient from rigid to compliant (cartilage). It is also abundant in corneas, blood vessels, the gut, intervertebral discs, and the dentin in teeth. In muscle tissue, it serves as a major component of the endomysium. Collagen constitutes one to two percent of muscle tissue and accounts for 6% of the weight of strong, tendinous, muscles. The fibroblast is the most common cell that creates collagen. Gelatin, which is used in food and industry, is collagen that has been, irreversibly, hydrolyzed. Collagen, also, has many medical uses in treating complications of the bones and skin.

Is a disease in which your blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high? Glucose comes from the foods you eat. Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy. With type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin. With type 2 diabetes, the more common type, your body does not make or use insulin well. Without enough insulin, the glucose stays in your blood.

Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause serious problems. It can damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Diabetes can also cause heart disease, stroke and even the need to remove a limb. Pregnant women can also get diabetes, called gestational diabetes.

Depressions and related

Experiencing depressed mood, including feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or helplessness, does not always mean that you have major depressive disorder. Depressive symptoms can be related to or triggered by other medical problems, psychiatric illnesses, and substance abuse.

The overlap between depression and other medical conditions and mental disorders can make it difficult to obtain an accurate diagnosis when a patient presents with depressive symptoms. Research shows that physical illnesses increase the likelihood of depressive illness, including the following:

-Heart disease
-Chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue 1
-Multiple sclerosis
-Hormone imbalance 2
-Postpartum depression

Liver Detox

Your liver is one of the largest organs in your body. It helps remove waste products and processes various nutrients and medicines. Most people think a cleanse will help their liver remove toxins better after too much alcohol or unhealthy foods. Some hope it will help their liver work better on a daily. Many believe it’ll help treat liver disease.

Like most detox methods, a liver cleanse has specific steps. You may have to fast or to only drink juices or other liquids for several days. You might need to eat a restricted diet or take herbal or dietary supplements. Some detoxes also prompt you to buy a variety of other commercial products. Some approaches may combine several of these methods.

Hepatobiliary problems

Hepatobiliary disease includes a heterogeneous group of diseases of the liver and biliary system caused by viral, bacterial, and parasitic infections, neoplasia, toxic chemicals, alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, metabolic disorders, and cardiac failure. The two predominant diseases of the liver in the United States are viral hepatitis and cirrhosis; the predominant chronic disease of the biliary system is cholelithiasis.

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) involves an immune-mediated process in which an abnormal response of the body’s immune system is directed against the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Within the CNS, the immune system causes inflammation that damages myelin — the fatty substance that surrounds and insulates the nerve fibers — as well as the nerve fibers themselves, and the specialized cells that make myelin.
-When myelin or nerve fibers are damaged or destroyed in MS, messages within the CNS are altered or stopped completely.
-Damage to areas of the CNS may produce a variety of neurological symptoms that will vary among people with MS in type and severity
-The damaged areas develop scar tissue which gives the disease its name – multiple areas of scarring or multiple sclerosis.
-The cause of MS is not known, but it is believed to involve genetic susceptibility, abnormalities in the immune system and environmental factors that combine to trigger the disease.
-People with MS typically experience one of four disease courses. There are over a dozen treatments to help modify the MS disease process.

Essential amino acids

An essential amino acid, or indispensable amino acid, is an amino acid that cannot be synthesized de novo (from scratch) by the organism, and thus must be supplied in its diet. The nine amino acids humans cannot synthesize are phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, lysine, and histidine.

Six other amino acids are considered conditionally essential in the human diet, meaning their synthesis can be limited under special pathophysiological conditions, such as prematurity in the infant or individuals in severe catabolic distress. These six are arginine, cysteine, glycine, glutamine, proline, and tyrosine. Six amino acids are non-essential (dispensable) in humans, meaning they can be synthesized in sufficient quantities in the body. These six are alanine, aspartic acid, asparagine, glutamic acid, serine, and selenocysteine.

Herpes is caused by a virus: the herpes simplex virus (HSV). HSV is part of the family of viruses called herpes viruses. This family includes the EpsteinBarr virus, which causes mononucleosis and the varicella-zoster virus that causes chickenpox. Although there are many viruses in the herpes virus family, each virus is separate and distinct from one another.

HSV is a generally moderate recurrent skin condition. There are two types of herpes simplex, herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2). HSV can cause oral herpes (ulcers or sores in the mouth - fire or foaming - or on the face) as well as genital herpes (similar symptoms in the genital region) Most cases of oral herpes are caused by HSV -1 and most cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-2; however, both type 1 and type 2 can appear in the genitals, oral area or both.

Non-essential amino acids

Don’t let their name fool you – nonessential amino acids fill essential roles. Nonessential amino acids support tissue growth and repair, immune function, red blood cell formation, and hormone synthesis. However, unlike essential amino acids, a healthy body can create these proteins if given enough protein sources with essential amino acids. There are 11 nonessential amino acids: arginine, glutamine, tyrosine, cysteine, glycine, proline, serine, ornithine, alanine, asparagine, and aspartate.

Of these, eight are conditional amino acids. Typically, your body will be able to synthesize these amino acids. However, if you are stressed, sick, or not consuming enough protein and carbohydrates, your body might not be able to produce enough of them. The conditional amino acids are arginine, glutamine, tyrosine, cysteine, glycine, proline, serine, and ornithine.

Parkinson and related

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. As the disease worsens, non-motor symptoms become increasingly common. The symptoms generally come on slowly over time. Early in the disease, the most obvious are shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Thinking and behavioral problems may also occur. Dementia becomes common in the advanced stages of the disease. Depression and anxiety are also common, occurring in more than a third of people with PD. Other symptoms include sensory, sleep, and emotional problems. The main motor symptoms are collectively called "parkinsonism", or a "parkinsonian syndrome".

The cause of Parkinson's disease is generally unknown but believed to involve both genetic and environmental factors. Those with a family member affected are more likely to get the disease themselves. There is also an increased risk in people exposed to certain pesticides and among those who have had prior head injuries, while there is a reduced risk in tobacco smokers and those who drink coffee or tea. The motor symptoms of the disease result from the death of cells in the substantia nigra, a region of the midbrain. This results in not enough dopamine in these areas. The reason for this cell death is poorly understood but involves the build-up of proteins into Lewy bodies in the neurons. Diagnosis of typical cases is mainly based on symptoms, with tests such as neuroimaging being used to rule out other diseases.

Radiation is often categorized as either ionizing or non-ionizing depending on the energy of the radiated particles. Ionizing radiation carries more than 10 eV, which is enough to ionize atoms and molecules, and break chemical bonds. This is an important distinction due to the large difference in harmfulness to living organisms. A common source of ionizing radiation is radioactive materials that emit α, β, or γ radiation, consisting of helium nuclei, electrons or positrons, and photons, respectively. Other sources include X-rays from medical radiography examinations and muons, mesons, positrons, neutrons and other particles that constitute the secondary cosmic rays that are produced after primary cosmic rays interact with Earth's atmosphere.

Gamma rays, X-rays and the higher energy range of ultraviolet light constitute the ionizing part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The word "ionize" refers to the breaking of one or more electrons away from an atom, an action that requires the relatively high energies that these electromagnetic waves supply. Further down the spectrum, the non-ionizing lower energies of the lower ultraviolet spectrum cannot ionize atoms but can disrupt the inter-atomic bonds which form molecules, thereby breaking down molecules rather than atoms; a good example of this is sunburn caused by long-wavelength solar ultraviolet. The waves of longer wavelength than UV in visible light, infrared and microwave frequencies cannot break bonds but can cause vibrations in the bonds which are sensed as heat. Radio wavelengths and below generally are not regarded as harmful to biological systems. These are not sharp delineations of the energies; there is some overlap in the effects of specific frequencies.

Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you sense danger—whether it’s real or imagined—the body’s defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the “stress response.” The stress response is the body’s way of protecting you. When working properly, it helps you stay focused, energetic, and alert. In emergency situations, stress can save your life—giving you extra strength to defend yourself, for example, or spurring you to slam on the brakes to avoid a car accident.

Stress can also help you rise to meet challenges. It’s what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work, sharpens your concentration when you’re attempting the game-winning free throw, or drives you to study for an exam when you’d rather be watching TV. But beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, mood, productivity, relationships, and your quality of life.
